Fixing an error 56

In this article we look at the cause of "Error 56" and the solution

When the software is attempting to perform an action such as create a file from a report, doing a backup or installing the software an Error 56 may occur. This error normally occurs when there is insufficient disk space available for the action the software is attempting to perform.

For the software to be able to complete the action it has been instructed to perform, sufficient free space needs to be created on the hard disk. Depending on the action being performed, the space required may be on the hard drive of the local pc or the hard drive on the server. This can be done by such methods as deleting files that are no longer needed, uninstalling programs that are no longer used and using Disk Cleanup (in the Properties of the disk drive).

Once the cleanup of the drive(s) is complete so there is sufficient space available, in the software try performing the action again. This should now work ok.
