Alternative leave day not being applied to employees who worked on a public holiday (New Zealand)

Employees who work on a Public Holiday are entitled to be paid Time & a Half for the number of hours worked and, in some instances are also entitled to an Alternative Leave day.

MYOB Exo Time and Attendance Software has an ability to apply an Alternative Leave day to an employee who has worked on a Public Holiday.

Depending on the setup of the Daily Rules, Exceptions and the Statutory Holiday Pay Group assigned to the employee, an Alternative Leave day can be credited when an employee works on a Public Holiday. The software determines whether an employee has worked on a Public Holiday or not based on the employee's swipe times for the day concerned.

If an employee has worked on a Public Holiday, the software will apply in the "Generate Units" screen of the "Edit Times for Day" screen the "Payroll Days Worked" figures as setup in the Exception of the Daily Rule being used for that day.

If the software does not populate the "Payroll Days Worked" field in the "Generate Units" screen then the following options can be tried:

  • Manually enter in the "Generate Units" screen of the day concerned what figures the employees should be accruing for Alternative Leave for having worked on the Public Holiday.
  • Refresh the Exception being used by the Daily Rule for working on the Statutory Holiday Day by following the procedure below.
To refresh the exception
  1. Go to the Maintenance menu then select Exceptions.
  2. Select the Exception being used by the Daily Rule for working on the Statutory Holiday.
  3. Re-enter the value that appears in the "Payroll Days Worked" field.
  4. Save this screen then Exit.
  5. The value entered in the "Payroll Days Worked" field should now be appearing in the "Generate Units" screen.
