Error 1732: "Data type is invalid for this property"

Errors can occur when running the software due to many possible different causes such as:

  • corruption of data or files
  • changes made in the environment that the software has not been updated for
  • user's rights are setup incorrectly or have been changed

An “Error 1732 data type is invalid for this property” message is advising that an event has happened to the software which has affected files. The affected property will be shown in the error message such as ‘pay.init’.

Depending on what was being done in the software when the event occurred, other messages may appear when using the software such as “Employee is not currently in this pay period. Pay employee {employees name} this period?” when editing an employee in the open pay. These messages can assist with determining the option to use.

The following options can be done:

  • Exit the software then restart and redo what was being done when the error occurred
  • Run a File Reindex from the Utilities menu. Click here for further assistance.
  • Restore a company backup that had been created before the error occurred. Click here for further assistance.

If data has changed or disappeared in the software after the error had occurred or other messages have appeared, as mentioned earlier, then the Restore option is the recommended resolution.
