Setting up proportional costing in EXO Payroll

Amounts paid to an employee in MYOB Exo Payroll can be assigned to different cost centres using the three different methods of Costing as follows:

  • Direct
  • Proportional
  • Mixed Proportional

The Proportional Costing method allows an employees pay to be proportionally costed based on either Hours or Percentage. The setup of this method can be done in either the Standard Pay or the Current Pay of the employee. If the Proportional Costing is setup in the Standard Pay then it will appear in each future pay processed while setting it up in the Current Pay will only affect that specific pay being processed.

The following steps detail how to setup Proportional Costing in the Standard Pay for an employee. If the setup is to be done in the Current Pay only, follow the same steps but do it in the Current Pay being processed.

The Proportional Costing setup only affects the employee the settings are entered for. Each employee must be setup individually for Proportional Costing.
To set up proportional costing
  1. Go to the Standard Pay tab of Employee Maintenance
  2. Click on the Costing button
  3. Tick the Proportional Costing option
  4. Select the Method to be used - Hours or Percentage
  5. Using the Add:F4 button, enter the Portion and the Cost Centre then click Save:F10. Repeat this for each Portion.
  6. Once the Total Entered field has reached the same value as the Total Percentage (or Total Hours) field, confirm that the correct Portions and Cost Centres have been entered
  7. Click Save:F10 to exit the Proportional Costing screen and return to the Pay screen
