Error: "Printer not activated -30"

Errors can occur when running the software due to many possible different causes such as:

  • corruption of data or files
  • changes made in the environment that the software has not been updated for
  • user's rights are setup incorrectly or have been changed

If the 'Printer not activated -30' message occurs when sending e-mail payslips or printing reports to PDF, this can be due to the following:

  • Upgrading to a later version of Windows
  • Upgrades performed on the pc or server
  • Speed issues on the environment

Below are options for resolving the situation:

  • Run a File Reindex in the payroll company experiencing the error then try running the report again. If the error occurs in several payroll companies then run the File Reindex in each company. Click here for further details on running a File Reindex.
  • Run the network.exe file on the pc experiencing the error. If the error is occurring on multiple pc's then the network.exe would need to be run on each pc. Click here for further assistance with running the network.exe file.
  • Have IT setup a remote connection to the server that the Payroll is installed on, such as a Terminal Server connection or a Remote Desktop Connection (RDP). This setup will require the network.exe file being run on the server so that the necessary files are available for the Payroll to use.
  • If the above options do not resolve the situation then it is likely to the related to the environment the Payroll is being run in. This could be due to things such as the firewall or anti-virus being used, other programs that are running on the environment, slowness in the network and so forth. This is something that the company's IT would need to look into.

Another potential cause (particularly if the steps above do not help) is a "Windows Optional Update" that began in mid 2019. This installs a new version of the Amyuni Document Converter 600 – V6.0.1.9 (29/03/2019) or later. Exo Payroll is expecting an earlier version, so gives an error on trying to convert reports (including Payslips) to pdf files. The answer comes in three steps, and will need the company's IT support to assist. At each affected "Client PC":

  • Within Windows - remove the "Amyuni Document Converter 600" Driver Package. IT support can normally do this via the Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and Print Management option.
  • Next run the "Network.exe" file to reinstall the required version. This process is included in the steps above, along with link to an article explaining more.
  • Finally, exclude this option from Windows Update selection. Unless this is done, problem will keep returning with every Windows Update.
