Limitations of the back pay calculator (New Zealand)

The MYOB Exo Payroll "Back Pay Calculator" is a tool available from the Pay menu. This tool can be used to apply Salary or Hourly Rate increases to selected employees. Where the increase is back-dated, this tool can calculate a "Back-pay" amount based on pays processed since the specified date.

In some circumstances the Back Pay amount calculated may be different to the figure expected. See below for further information.

Calculating the correct amount of Back-pay owed to an employee is not always simple, especially when pays in the "back-dated" period include a range of hourly rates (say for Overtime), allowances, and leave.

The Back Pay Calculator within MYOB Exo Payroll was designed as a bulk transaction utility for standard/ordinary pays and not intended for unlimited scenarios.

In more complex situations, the Back Pay Calculator might not calculate the expected amount of back pay and we suggest using a manual calculation. Listed below are limitations of the Back Pay Calculator:

  • Any Leave paid during the period will be excluded from the calculation.
  • Back-pay on allowances will only be applied to fixed dollar amount allowance codes and not on hourly rate or rated units.
