Setting up EXO Payroll to use single touch payroll with a proxy server (Australia)

Single Touch Payroll is a requirement introduced by the ATO for reporting payroll data directly from the Payroll software at the same time as your employees are paid. STP is required from 1 July 2018 for employers with 20 or more employees and is optional for employers with 19 or fewer employees for the 2018/2019 financial year but will be required for all employers from 1 July 2019.

EXO Payroll's services use the WinHttp 5.1 protocol for STP services. If the company's environment uses a proxy server, they may need to set WinHttp to use the proxy server.

Running the following command with the correct proxy server name and port related to this environment will solve the situation. This command needs to be run on each individual computer - the user's workstation or the server (for remote connection situations such as Terminal Server).

netsh winhttp set proxy proxy-server="http=myproxy;https=sproxy:88" bypass-list="*.foo.com"

To reset the winhttp proxy on a machine, run the following command from a command prompt as an admin:

netsh winhttp reset proxy
