Changing the hourly rate for a new employee (New Zealand)

In MYOB Exo Payroll, new employees can be added through the "New Employee" option. Adding a new employee allows the setting up of the employee's information including items such as their Tax Code, Holiday Pay, Sick Leave and their Standard Pay.

When setting up new employees in MYOB Exo Payroll, there are occasions when the hourly rate cannot be changed in a pay rate in the Wages screen of the Standard Pay for the employee. This is normally due to the following reasons:

  • Using multiple wage hourly rates
  • Pay Rate Type for Relevant Hourly Rate has been set incorrectly

To be able to change an hourly rate in a Pay Rate in the Wages screen, follow the suggestions below.

  • If Multiple Hourly Rates are being used then enter the desired hourly rate in the Hourly Rates button. In the Pay Rate line in the Wages screen, change the Code field to the appropriate code for the Hourly Rate to be used.

  • Check the setting for the "Pay Rate Type for Relevant Hourly Rate" field in the "Leave Manangement Setup" screen of "Payroll Setup", as described in the procedure below.
To check an employee's hourly pay rate setting
  1. Go to the "Utilities" menu then select "Setup Exo Payroll"
  2. The "Payroll Setup" screen will appear then click on the "Leave Management Setup" button
  3. For the "Pay Rate Type for Relevant Hourly Rate" field in the "Public Holiday" section, click on the dropdown arrow then select a pay rate that has been specifically setup for paying an employee who works on a Public Holiday, such as Stat Day Worked or leave the field blank.
  4. Click "Save:F10" to save the changes

  5. The Hourly Rate in the Rate field of the Wages screen of the employee can now be changed.

When the "Pay Rate Type for Relevant Hourly Rate" field has a pay rate selected, that pay rate will have the rate determined by the Relevant Hourly Rate calculation applied to it for all pays processed for the employee. The pay rate assigned to this field should only be used when an employee works on a Public Holiday.
