Setting up Kiwisaver groups when no employee contribution is being made (New Zealand)

Employees who are members of a Kiwisaver scheme make contributions each pay at the rate they have advised while companies must also make contributions for these employees.

In certain circumstances, such as with employees taking a Contribution Holiday, companies may choose to continue to make the employer contributions.

To create a Kiwisaver group with no employer contribution
  1. Go to the Maintenance menu then select Kiwisaver Groups.
  2. Click on the Add:F4 button or press F4.
  3. Enter a code for this Group.
  4. Enter a name for this Group.
  5. If Cost Centres have been used on the normal Kiwisaver Groups then enter the appropriate Cost Centre for this Group
  6. Do not tick either of the options - "Assign new employees to this group" and "Gross Up Employer Contribution".
  7. In the "Employee Contribution" field, leave the Employee contribution % field as 0% since there is to be no employee contribution calculated.
  8. In the "Employer Contribution" field, enter the appropriate Employer contribution % figure, e.g. 3%.
  9. Click on the Save:F10 button or press F10 to save this Group.

If a company is doing employer contributions at different rates for different employees then a Kiwisaver Group should be created for each % rate, e.g. a group for 3%, another for 4%, etc.

Once the Group has been created then it can be applied to the appropriate employee through the Kiwisaver button in the employee's Standard Pay screen.
