Reports generated to PDF file not responding

MYOB Exo Employer Services software contains an extensive selection of reports under several categories. These reports can be printed, previewed to screen, exported to a CSV file (suitable for Excel) or generated as a PDF file.

When generating a report in PDF format (using the Destination of File under Output Options), the MYOB Exo Employer Services software uses the MYOB PDF Converter printer driver (can be found in the list of printers in Windows). By default the MYOB PDF Converter is assigned to the LPT1 printer port.

In some instances the MYOB PDF Converter may be unable to generate the reports in the PDF format. When the Create File button is used to generate a report to PDF, the process may stop responding. When this occurs the user will need to use Task Manager (in Windows) to end the process called splwow64.exe.

This seems to only occur on Windows 7 64-bit PCs.

To resolve this situation, assign the MYOB PDF Converter to the Null port, creating a Null port if one does not exist. The following can assist with assigning the MYOB PDF Converter to the Null port:

To assign the MYOB PDF converter to the null port
  1. Go to the list of printers in Windows (Click on the Start button then select "Devices and Printers")
  2. Right click on the MYOB PDF Converter then select "Printer Properties"
  3. Click on the "Ports" tab
  4. Find the port called "Nul" (or "Null") then tick that port

  5. Click on Apply then click on OK

If the "Nul" port does not exist then add the "Nul" port by clicking on the "Add Port" button in the Ports tab.
