Accrued leave is twice the expected value (New Zealand)

An employee’s accrued leave figure is determined using the Annual Entitlement Days/Hours and the Accrued To date (this date determines how far through the employee’s holiday year the calculation is for). Holiday Pay Groups can also influence the calculations of the accrued leave for an employee.

When an employees accrued leave appears to be incorrect, check that the employee’s Annual Entitlement Days (or Hours) figure is correct. If the entitlement is correct then do a manual calculation to see if the accrued leave figure is approximately the same as your manual calculation. If your manual calculation is close to the accrued figure, the accrued leave will be correct (the payroll software’s calculation of the leave accrued is more accurate than the manual calculation). If the manual calculation figure is not close to the accrued leave figure then further investigation is required.

If Holiday Pay Groups are being used and a group has been assigned to the employee, check “This Year Entitlement Changes” by clicking on the button and look out for any duplicate lines of entitlements appearing. Duplicate lines can occur for both full and part time employees who have a Holiday Pay Group assigned, even when their setup for annual entitlement days/hours, anniversary date, days/hours paid and paid periods accrued to date are otherwise correct.

If there are any duplicate lines appearing then contact MYOB Exo Support for further assistance.
