Unable to access a menu or toolbar item

Menus are a way of accessing the different areas of the software along with using the toolbar buttons. There are times when the menu items and toolbar buttons are unavailable.

When trying to use a menu item or a toolbar button, it can be found that the item or button is greyed out. The following are possible reasons for this occurring.

User security

The user's login may not have access to that item(s). In this situation the menu item and/or toolbar button would be greyed out and not accessible. Check in User Security for that login to make sure that the appropriate items are appearing in the Selected column in the Access Rights tab.

An open window

When there is an open screen, e.g. the Current Pay screen, trying to access the menus or toolbar buttons outside of the open screen will not work as the menus and toolbar buttons are greyed out. Whenever a screen is open it takes "control" of the software, stopping access to the menus and toolbar buttons but allowing certain other functions to occur such as using the function keys, e.g. F2.

To access a menu item or a toolbar button, the open screen will need to be closed which will then allow the menus and buttons to become active.
