Error 39: Numeric overflow when dealing with lieu hours (Australia)

Payroll is designed to store your lieu hour's information for employees as the lieu hours accumulate. The totals are then displayed for viewing within Employee Maintenance and also in the Current Pay's Leave Management screens.

When accessing any of the areas within the system that relates to lieu hours you may get an Error 39 Numerical Overflow message.

A numeric overflow occurs when a mathematical operation results in a number that is too large to be stored in the field or variable in which it was placed. Most likely the overflow is in the Time in Lieu hours field. Check the employee's Other tab in their Employee Maintenance screen and in the Time in Lieu Hours field it may be showing **** instead of a number - this indicates that a numerical overflow has occurred.

The cause of the numeric overflow is that the system is calculating a total of over 1000 lieu hours available to that employee.

Removing the overflow

  • If there are no pays open then you can remove the ***.** figure from the Time in Lieu Hours field in the Employee Maintenance screen then enter what the employee's Lieu Hours balance should be.
  • If there is an open pay (either a Current Pay or a One Off Pay), check the Lieu Time screen in Leave Management in the open pay for that employee. If there are Hours Worked showing here, correct that figure and save. Also, remove the ***.** figure from the Time in Lieu Hours field in the Employee Maintenance screen then enter what the employee's Lieu Hours balance should be.
  • If you are unable to remove the figures because of a red screen Error 39 message or if, each time you open a Current Pay or a One Off Pay, the Hours Worked field in the Lieu Time screen shows a figure automatically, you should contact MYOB Exo Support on 1800 836 226 for further assistance.
