Setting up a Kiwisaver group when no employer contribution is being made (New Zealand)

Employees who are members of a Kiwisaver scheme make contributions each pay at the rate they have advised while companies must also make contributions for these employees.

In certain circumstances, such as with employees under 18 or over 65 years of age, companies may not need to make the employer contributions.

To create a Kiwisaver group with no employer contribution
  1. Go to the Maintenance menu then select Kiwisaver Groups.
  2. Click on the Add:F4 button or press F4.
  3. Enter a code for this group.
  4. Enter a name for this group.
  5. As there will be no employer contributions calculated when this group is used, leave the Cost Centre field empty.
  6. Do not tick either of the options - "Assign new employees to this group" and "Gross Up Employer Contribution".
  7. In the "Employee Contribution" field, enter the appropriate Employee contribution % figure, e.g. 3%.
  8. In the "Employer Contribution" field, leave the Employer contribution % field as 0% since there is to be no employer contribution calculated.
  9. Click on the Save:F10 button or press F10 to save this Group.

A Kiwisaver Group should be created for each employee contribution %, e.g. a group for 3%, another for 4%, etc.

Once the Group has been created then it can be applied to the appropriate employee through the Kiwisaver button in the employee's Standard Pay screen.
