Use this process when Reportable Employer Superannuation Contributions (RESC) were missed from one or more previous pays and the employee’s reported year-to-date amounts need to be corrected.
This procedure is for Australian PayGlobal payrolls using Single Touch Payroll (STP).
Before you begin
-
Identify the affected employee or employees and the previous financial year that needs correcting.
-
Confirm the RESC amount to be reported for each employee from your payroll history and supporting records.
-
Take a database backup before rebuilding accumulators.
-
If the previous financial year has already been finalised, plan to re-finalise the affected employee or employees after the correction.
1. Create an allowance for the missed RESC amount
Create a new allowance and configure it for employer superannuation:
-
Open the allowance setup and create a new allowance.
-
On the Details (i) tab, set:
-
Type:
Z. Employee Super -
Taxable:
No -
Salary Sacrifice:
Yes
-
-
Add the new allowance to the Allowances tab of each relevant superannuation fund’s Salary Sacrifice RESC ($) field.
2. Enter the correction in a prior-year Manual Pay
-
Open a Manual Pay and connect it to the previous financial year.
-
In Transaction View, select Insert > Sequence Header, or press Ctrl+A.
-
Select the accumulator codes that apply to the affected pay period:
-
Click the accumulator pick-list button.
-
Select the required accumulator code.
-
Click Select.
-
-
In the Sequence Header form, tab to the next accumulator field - the To and From dates for the changed accumulator will update.
-
Confirm the dates of each accumulator are accurate, then select OK to return to Transaction View.
-
Add the new Salary Sacrifice RESC allowance to the employee’s Manual Pay.
-
Set Recalculate to
No, then open the Text tab. -
Confirm the employee’s superannuation fund information is populated and the RESC Amount field is available for editing.
-
Enter the RESC amount that must be reported for the previous financial year.
-
Process and close the Manual Pay.
3. Submit the STP correction
The next step depends on your STP submission setup:
-
Automatic submission: PayGlobal automatically sends an Update Event for the previous financial year when the Manual Pay is closed.
-
Manual submission: Open the STP Manager and create and submit an Update Event for the affected tax year and payer. Use the close-pay audit log to confirm the required details.
For a correction associated with a specific pay, the STP Manager’s Update (Pay filter) option can be used to create an Update Event for the employees included in that pay.
4. Re-finalise the affected employees when required
If the previous financial year had already been finalised, re-finalise the affected employee or employees after submitting the Update Event. An Update Event for an employee who was previously finalised can make the employee no longer tax ready until the employee is re-finalised.
See Re-finalising single touch payroll.
5. Rebuild the accumulators
After the correction has been submitted, rebuild the affected employee’s accumulators so their year-to-date values are brought forward into the current financial year:
-
Confirm the accumulator codes from the last pay closed in the current financial year.
-
Go to Payroll > Rebuild Accumulators.
-
Select the affected employee or an employee query containing the affected employees.
-
Enter the accumulator codes and run the rebuild.
-
Review the log when the process completes, then check the employee’s current-year values.
Important: Rebuild Accumulators overwrites manual changes to accumulators and rebuilds them from transactions processed through pay sequences. Always confirm the employee selection and accumulator codes before continuing.
6. Verify the correction
After completing the process, check that:
-
The corrected RESC amount appears in the relevant employee history and payslip information.
-
The previous financial year’s STP Update Event has been submitted successfully.
-
The employee’s Income Statement reflects the corrected RESC amount.
-
The employee is tax ready if the previous year was already finalised.
-
The current-year year-to-date values are correct after the accumulator rebuild.
