Opting a new employee out of KiwiSaver
In PayGlobal, KiwiSaver opt-out information is not included in your EI and ED files. When you are using the file upload method of payday filing (rather than the Gateway method), there is no in-product process to send KiwiSaver opt-out details to Inland Revenue automatically.
In these situations, you will need to update Inland Revenue manually in myIR for any employee who is opting out of KiwiSaver.
When this applies
Use this process if:
You submit payday filing using the file upload method in myIR (not the Gateway method), and
An employee who has been automatically enrolled in KiwiSaver asks to opt out.
How to opt a new employee out of KiwiSaver in myIR
To record the opt-out in myIR:
Log in to myIR and go to your payroll account.
Select Employees on the payroll account.
Open the employee you want to opt out.
Under the “I want to…” heading, select Opt-out of KiwiSaver.
Enter the required details as prompted and submit the request.
Once submitted, Inland Revenue will process the opt-out and handle any refunds or adjustments in line with their KiwiSaver rules.
More information
For full details of the employer opt-out process, including timeframes and rules, refer to Inland Revenue’s guidance:
What if I’m using the Gateway method for Payday Filing?
If you’re using the Gateway method (rather than the file upload method), KiwiSaver opt-out information can be sent directly from PayGlobal to Inland Revenue as part of your payday filing.
For step-by-step details on setting this up and using it in PayGlobal, see our Gateway - Reporting employee KiwiSaver Opt Out documentation below:
