Domestic Violence Leave

From 1 April 2019, employees affected by domestic violence can request paid domestic violence leave (DVL). It works in a similar way to sick leave, but to learn all the ins and outs visit the Employment New Zealand website.

To process DVL payments in MYOB Payroll you'll need to create a new Pay Code.

Here are the details:


1. Create a new Pay Code
  1. Go to the Maintenance command centre and click Maintain pay codes.
  2. Click New.
  3. Set up the Pay Code:
  4. For the Pay Code Type, select Gross Earnings.
  5. For the Pay Code, enter DVL (for example).
  6. For the Pay Code Description, enter Special Leave (for example).
  7. Click OK.
  8. With the new DVL pay code selected, select the option Allow rate to be modified when entering pay details.
  9. Click Close.
2. Process a DVL payment
  1. When processing the employee's pay, click Add default from right hand menu.
  2. Select the DVL pay code then click OK.
  3. Leave the Default Quantity and Default Rate as 0.00.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Relevant daily pay: If the employee works regular hours, enter the hours they would have worked against the DVL pay code, and their normal rate in the Rate field.
  6. Average daily pay: If it's not practical to determine how much they would have earned had they worked:

    1. Click Leave then click RDP Calculation.

    2. Take a note of the daily amount under Use Average Daily Pay based on 52 weeks Gross Earnings.

    3. Click OK.
    4. Back in the pay, enter 1 in the Quantity field against the DVL pay code and enter the daily rate noted previously as the Rate.
3. Report on DVL

You can report on DVL taken using the Pay Code Analysis Report under Reports > Period reports.

Entitlements would have to be tracked manually. To help with this, use the Notes tab in in the employee's details.
