Known issue 2014.02 (resolved): When updating superannuation to 9.5%, values from earlier closed pays are changing

The following issue has been identified and subsequently replicated by MYOB Exo Employer Services Support in the Exo Payroll version 2014.02 for Australia.

Issue

When the option to update super from 9.25% to 9.5% is selected some clients have reported that the leave values, taxes and super amounts in earlier pays (that were closed) have changed.

After the client’s have upgraded to the new AU ES 2014.02 release and applied the auto update of the Super Guarantee rate, upon performing EOFY reconciliations to the reports prior to the upgrade some employee EOFY information has changed.

What has been found in the clients' database were historical pay periods (paynums prior to the current/most recent pay for that frequency) in the PAYPERIODS database table that are still flagged as OPEN, when they should be CLOSED (PAYPERIODS.popen flag = .T. ). This value was the opposite as what was showing in the PAY table.

When the Superannuation Guarantee (SG) Rate Update process is triggered, upon the first pay of the new financial year being created, the process selects OPEN pays based on the value as set in the PAYPERIODS.popen field. This not only captures the intended current open pays, but it includes those historic pays that are incorrectly still open.

Further investigation found that this issue has been present from 2010. It has not been introduced in this current 2014.02 release.

The main impact scenario of concern is where an employer has run the Superannuation Guarantee (SG) Rate Update process BEFORE printing and submitting the Payment Summary Annual Reports AND a incorrectly CLOSED pay existed in the 2013/14 Financial YEAR.

In the above scenario, the employer would need to fix the incorrect data and then re-submit an Amended Payment Summary Annual report electronically to the ATO and print a new copy for the affected employee(s).

For employers that completed ALL of their EOFY tasks including submitting and printing of their Payment Summary Annual Reports prior to the Superannuation Guarantee (SG) Rate Update process, NO re-submission of the Payment Summary Annual report is required. What may be needed are database checks to see if any historical closed pays have an incorrect PAYPERIODS.popen flag.

Workaround

NA - manual intervention (not ideal) and the issue must firstly be identified.
