Known issue 2014.01: MyStaffInfo "Error in secure channel support"

The following issue has been identified and subsequently replicated by MYOB Support in MSI version 2014.01 and applies to both AU and NZ Payroll.

Issue

Clients who are still in a Windows Server 2003 environment and also still utilising Internet Explorer 8 or earlier may experience a combination of error messages when attempting to access the MSI website and also syncing data via the MSI console.

The first notable error message in this environment can be an error during synchronisation – the process fails at first step with the console displaying “Error in secure Channel Support" or something similar.

The second error message can occur when trying to access the MSI website through Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) or below and will say “Cannot access web page.”

Both of these issues are as a result of incompatibility with the security requirements of the current version of MyStaffInfo. Both IE8 and the Windows Server 2003 environment are no longer supported by Microsoft. MYOB follows the Microsoft support lifecycle and therefore does not support or test in these environments.

Workaround

There are several options that can be utilised as a temporary workaround until the environment can be upgraded to one that is supported:

  • Utilise an alternative web browser such as Firefox
  • Copy the Payrollv folder to a Windows 7 PC and run the software locally – backup files can be still saved to a server location
  • Try connecting a Windows 7 client to run Payroll on Server 2003. This will work but runs the risk of network errors such as 2066

Resolution

MYOB cannot provide any support for issues occurring in these environments.
