Shift variation requests: Assigning shifts outside employees' standard hours

Employees' standard hours determine the times they normally expect to work. If you want an employee to work a shift that falls outside those hours you need to send them a request to vary their standard hours, which they can then accept or decline.

Turning on standard hours variations

To turn on the option to vary standard hours, go to Management > Settings > Company Settings and select Allow publish outside of standard hours shifts.

Sending a shift variation request

  1. Go to the Roster page, and assign an employee to a shift that is outside of their standard hours. The warning “Shift is outside of standard hours” is shown.

  2. Click Temporarily Vary Standard Hours.

  3. Update the temporary variation form so that the employee’s standard hours allow for the new shift.

  4. Click Send Request when you’re done.
The employee is sent a notification asking them to accept or decline the request, and the shift is flagged blue to show the request is pending.

The shift is published when the employee accepts the request. If they decline the request the employee is removed from the shift, and it will show as unassigned.
